My whole youth I’ve been a thin young man. Yet, after finishing university with a bachelor’s degree in advertising, and getting one stupidly spreadsheet staring-all-day-long cubicle job after another, something transformed inside of me. Trying to shut off the sense of relentless dissatisfaction, I started discovering the world of ingesting nutrients.
Foremost on my list of newly found interests was nutrition. I began eating whatever and whenever. The limit would not exist for me. The plentiful world of hamburgers, snack foods, little pizza pies, and pasta accepted me in like Kraken swallow’s tiny Greek ships. I could schedule dates with my meals. During work hours I would daydream of how I would come home, flip the TV on and begin gulping all the foods I brought with me. I would even cook in a my deep fryer while eating, so I could eat come more later on. After I was done easting I would open a pack of pringles, and in an hour cook up some key lime pie to eat it with sherbet.
I had gotten super hooked on food, to the sense of coziness it gave me, helping me reduce stress before returning to my crappy job. When at work, I would also continuously chew on snacks. Chips, gummy bears and deli sandwiches became my little friends. It truly abetted me in getting over any anxieties, when I thought of how it would be my existence until the end of life.
Within a year of these bad dietary habbits, I gained 100 pounds. Yes, I never though it was possible and always wondered how the people from that Biggest loser show got to where they were.
So one night I woke up in a hospice crib in Pittsburg. The medics met ‘round me and let me know that I almost had a severe heart attack. I was shocked as I was only 35 years old. They alleged I had to drop some weight or I could surely die. The update was devastating, but that’s when I grasped I had to either drop some pounds or move to a better world. The choice jus wasn’t there anymore.
How I lost it all
So, I began to workout. At first my exercise routine entailed of me merely trying to get up and then sit down. Once I got sturdier I started to walk everyday. First a mile a day, then a 2 miles, then five miles. I signed up for a local gym and started training with a coach. After each exercise session, I would spend another 20 minutes on an elliptical machine. Ultimately I signed up and ran my first half marathon
I started drinking green kale shakes and gave away my deep fryer. I still enjoyed my fried food once in a while, so had to search for an improved middle course. I steamed veggies, chicken tenders and bake cookies every other weekend.
Within another year I lost my 100 pounds. The doctors didn’t believe it when they say me, but I wasn’t doing it for them. I owed it to myself to get betterI quick the career I so loathed and found work at an organic convenience store, which I love. So the lesson in my story is, if you don’t like the way your life is going, don’t try to hide behind food. It won’t change anything. Stop fearing and go out and achieve something!
